BFA Project: 2008
The idea for my BFA project, in simple terms, was to get people to pick up and read the works of classic authors. Whether it be for the first time, or for a refresher course, these authors will never become irrelevant and I wanted to spread the word in the most dramatic way possible.
I created 10 illustrations that will [hypothetically] become building wraps throughout downtown Cleveland [for a much improved, much more educated morning commute]. Reading and experiencing a book is an intimate experience: you hold it in your hands, feel the cover, touch the pages. I wanted to take that interpersonal exchange and explode it into a scale never before experienced by literature. These authors and their work deserves to be displayed in a scale and power that parallels their contributions to our world.
For you Clevelanders, can you imagine flying down the shoreway and seeing Truman Capote and all his literary eccentricities displayed on a building as you approach?
